Community Coalition For Mental Health

The Mission of the Community Coalition on Mental Health is to:

  • Foster community-academic partnerships
  • Identify ways to increase awareness about depression
  • Reduce mental health stigma and promote social justice
  • Encourage help seeking for mental health problems among people in Harlem, with a specific focus on people of African descent in faith-based settings
We are currently conducting research to train Church Leaders in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). MHFA is a public education program that introduces participants to the risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, emphasizes early treatment, and connects people to needed supports.
